Photohonesty.org is all about challenging stigma through the use of documentary photography.
‘In attempting to address stigma I felt that I didn’t want to put my name out there as this would have been to self publicise and in some way exploit the people who had been willing to let me inside their often very private lives.
The work usually, but not always, presented in traditional photodocumentary black and white, seeks to explore issues around power relationships and civilisation.
Some of the most incredible people I’ve met have been challenged by medical conditions and have had to fight to participate in what we try to classify as ‘normal’ life. And yet many only ask to be accepted for who they are and not to receive special treatment. This is about celebrating individuality, making it something to be admired and, only then, will we respect each other.
I would argue that only then can we describe ourselves as civilised.'
